About Al's Clinics

Alan Schlessman was a young man with tremendous athletic talent and a big heart. He loved children, and regularly took time to play with his younger cousins, neighbors and school kids. Alan was tragically killed on April 13, 2003, in an arson fire at his Ohio State University house.

Al's Clinics was created to reach out to area youth, continuing Alan's legacy and preserving his memory. The first Al's Clinics became a reality only three months after his death, thanks to the tremendous support of the community and now the contributions are making sports affordable for Sandusky area youth. We continue to have the goal of teaching the youth a new skill while putting smiles on their faces, as Al would have done.

Mr. and Mrs. John Schlessman also established a scholarship fund in memory of their son Alan. Consideration is given for leadership, academic competence and desire for higher education and for participation in golf, basketball or tennis and peer programs. You can find a list of recipients and more information on the Scholarships page.

Al's Clinics was established to provide an opportunity for Sandusky's area youth to learn lifetime sports in an exciting, positive environment. The clinics are open to ALL interested youth, regardless of age, experience and background. The clinics will be a catalyst for future opportunities such as leagues and camps, and monetary assistance will be available for continued instruction. Proper techniques, game rules and sportsmanship will be taught at all events.
